Blessed Be the Name of the Lord

It is so easy to praise the name of the Lord, when times are great- when all is well and His wonderful plan for us looks just like we like it- comfortable and happy. But what about when tragedy strikes, when the imperfection of this world smacks us in the face and we are confronted with things that seem unfair or unjust?

Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Faith is about believing in The unseen God, and that He alone is in control of the whole universe. That He is all powerful, merciful, loving, and just. Faith in Him requires that we believe this, not just when the flowers of spring bloom, or a baby is born, but when a Tornado strikes a college town and takes the lives of many too young to die; when children are diagnosed with cancer, or when those we love are taken from us, and we are left in the wake of tragedy with an unfinished list of things we planned to do together.

Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Even when it doesn't make sense to us, we have faith that God is in control. That He has already defeated death and that He alone has the power to use the tragedies of this world to His glory. Even when we don't understand God's ways, He ALWAYS does what is right. Even if it takes a long time, seems absurd, doesn't seem right, or we don't understand.

 "...the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away;
blessed be the name of the LORD." Job 1:21

 If we believe God is in control, and we also know every day of ours is numbered, then we must live with an eternal perspective. That every day we have may be our last. Bless the name of the Lord for each day you have- even in an imperfect world- and use each day wisely to make a difference. Bless the name of the Lord in tragedy and be grateful for each day He has given us with our loved ones, because everything we have came from Him.

 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
