DIY Menswear Pillows

July 5th was 50% off day at our thrift store. This was the perfect time to snag some old suits for the menswear pillows I needed for the Formal. Rustic. Southern. Living Room.
When selecting your thrift suits, pick interesting bold patterns (especially the ones you might not let your man wear) with colors that work in your space.
I selected mostly blazers, but honestly the pants made the easiest pillows because there wasn't as much tailoring. I simple cut these pants off below the knee, hemmed one side, stuffed, then stitched the other side closed as well. Two legs made matching bolsters.
I tried making button closures for some of the pillows, and others I just whip stitched closed.
You can make your pillow any shape you would like, but the square one required the whole back panel of a large man's blazer. I opened up two sleeves and sewed them together for another smaller square.
Just remember to PIN First since thicker material can be tricky.

Birthday Countdown!

until my 26th birthday on July 27th.
Birthdays were always a really big deal in my family, I guess because I was an only child, but we took them very seriously.
(1st, 4th, and 18th birthdays)
I thought I would share with you my birthday wish list this year, in case you were curious!
I mean a girl can WISH right?
Gift giving is one of my love languages, which means I put a LOT of thought into the gifts I give, and that the thought behind gifts given to me are more important than the object itself. It is probably why I love receiving old and unique items, because it makes me feel so special that someone either went hunting for a special object for me, or that they stumbled upon it and immediately thought of me. Who would NOT love that?
I do not dislike receiving things I ask for though.
What is the one of your favorite gifts you ever received and why?

"Moters" Day Gifts

Do you remember making a present for your mom/grandmother at school for Mother's Day? I don't know about you, but my mom still has most of those little trinkets including a flower pot that I proudly decorated with "Happy Moters Day."
Although she doesn't use it on a daily basis, (she still has to correct my spelling daily) she does still use these little jewelry jars I made at home one year.
I made them about 15 years ago out of face cream containers and scraps of ribbon.
They have a little piece of felt inside and fit earrings or small jewelry items you don't want to get tangled. Encourage your children's creativity by continuing to use their gifts as long as possible. The Big Mac container covered in wrapping paper did not survive after many years, but that was only because she carried it proudly on many trips. Your kids may think these items are cheesy when they're 16, but they will think it's incredibly sweet when they're 26 (and have a fully formed frontal lobe.)
